Recreation Committee Minutes – February 2024

MINUTES OF THE LAIRD RECREATION COMMITTEE MEETING HELD AT THE LAIRD TOWNSHIP OFFICE ON TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 27, 2024

The meeting was called to order by Matt Frolick, Chairperson.

ON MOTION (No. R05-24) Moved by Shawn Evoy, seconded by Jo-Anne Entwistle “That the committee approves the Main Recreation Committee Agenda of February 27, 2024 including Laird Hall Minutes for approval” CARRIED

ON MOTION (No. R06-24) Moved by Shawn Evoy, seconded by Noah Crozier “That the committee approves the Main Recreation Committee Minutes of December 14, 2023, the Finns Bay Wharf Committee Minutes of January 24, 2024, Bar River Hall Committee Minutes of January 24, 2024 and the Laird Hall Committee Minutes of February 6, 2024 as presented.” CARRIED

Committee Reports:

1. 1. Bar River Hall: Hall meeting is coming up to discuss further construction plans.
2. 2. Laird Hall: Council has approved of the Laird Hall applying for the Trillium Grant this year New chairs are required and the Laird Hall and Fairgrounds would like to share the chairs between the two facilities.

ON MOTION (No. R07-24) Moved by Jo-Anne Entwistle, seconded by Suzanne Evoy “That the committee approves of the Laird Hall Committee selling the old metal chairs.” CARRIED

1. 3. G. W. Evoy Rink: Due to weather conditions, the rink was only open for a total of 5 days this year.
2. 4. Laird Fairgrounds The township commitments for the RCMP Ride were discussed.

Budget meeting scheduled for Thurs. Feb. 29, 2024

1. 5. Heritage Forms are ready to pour. Needs engineered slab.

ON MOTION (No. R08-24) Moved by Shawn Evoy, seconded by Brenda Aelick “That the committee approves the account for January 2023 in the amount of $28,043.36 as presented.” CARRIED

Business Arising from Minutes:

The Winter Carnival scheduled for Sat. Jan. 27/24 was cancelled due to weather.

New Business:

ON MOTION (No. R09-24) Moved by Shawn Evoy, seconded by Jo-Anne Entwistle “That the recreation committee approves of a Pumpkin Fest Committee being formed by Council.” CARRIED

The Appreciation BBQ was discussed and some plans were made for this year.

The Walk/Bike Event was discussed and the committee would like to revisit it next year.

ON MOTION (No. R10-24) Moved by Brenda Aelick, seconded by Jo-Anne Entwistle “That the Recreation Committee is not in favour of the Finns Bay Wharf Committee holding a Meet & Greet on the Saturday before Pumpkin Fest.” CARRIED

The next meeting will be held Tuesday March 26, 2024 at 7:00p.m. at the Laird Township

Boardroom.

ON MOTION (No. R11-24) Moved by Shawn Evoy “That the February 27, 2024 meeting by adjourned.” CARRIED
