Recreation Committee Minutes – April 2024

MINUTES OF THE LAIRD RECREATION COMMITTEE MEETING HELD AT THE LAIRD TOWNSHIP OFFICE ON TUESDAY, APRIL 30, 2024

MEMBERS PRESENT: Suzanne Evoy Shawn Evoy Donna Bos Rhonda Crozier Jo-Anne Entwistle Brenda Aelick

The meeting was called to order by Shawn Evoy, Chairperson.

ON MOTION (No. R12-24) Moved by Donna Bos, seconded by Suzanne Evoy “That the committee approves the Main Recreation Committee Agenda of April 30, 2024 as presented.” CARRIED

ON MOTION (No. R13-24) Moved by Jo-Anne Entwistle, seconded by Brenda Aelick “That the committee approves the Main Recreation Committee Minutes of February 27, 2024, as presented.” CARRIED

Committee Reports:

1. 1. G. W. Evoy Rink: Broken window was changed out.
2. 2. Laird Hall: New propane tank in place. It is a rental. Sold old tank for $500
3. 3. Bar River Hall Tender for exterior repairs has been sent out.
4. 4. Finns Bay Wharf Gates need to be put back on. New sign coming for parking.

Other property improvements planned.

1. 5. Laird Fairgrounds Arena needs grooming. Vehicles out next weekend. New benches required for the baseball diamonds.

ON MOTION (No. R14-24) Moved by Donna Bos, seconded by Jo-Anne Entwistle “That the committee approves the account for February 2024 in the amount of $6333.23 as presented.” CARRIED

ON MOTION (No. R15-24) Moved by Brenda Aelick, seconded by Suzanne Evoy “That the committee approves the account for March 2024 in the amount of $1135.00 as presented.” CARRIED

Business Arising from Minutes:

The township council is wanting to form a Pumpkin Fest Committee and is looking for members.

Staff is looking into finding a caterer for the Appreciation BBQ.

New Business:

ON MOTION (No. R16-24) Moved by Brenda Aelick, seconded by Donna Bos “That the recreation committee requests council to approve the addition to the budget of the 3 Library Boxes expenditure in the amount of $900.00.” CARRIED

Pumpkin Seeds were not in on time to hand out for Earth Day.

Acting Chair, Shawn Evoy, declared a conflict of interest with Agenda item 3(d). ON MOTION (No. R17-24) Moved by Brenda Aelick, seconded by Suzanne Evoy “That the recreation committee is in favor of hiring the caretaker assistant and Heritage summer employee from last year, again this year.” CARRIED

ON MOTION (No. R18-24) Moved by Brenda Aelick, seconded by Suzanne “That the recreation committee approves of applying for the Inclusive Community Grant for Laird Fairgrounds.” CARRIED

The next meeting will be held Wednesday, May 29, 2024 at 7:00p.m. at the Laird

Township Boardroom.

ON MOTION (No. R18-24) Moved by Brenda Aelick “That the April 30, 2024 meeting by adjourned.” CARRIED
