Recreation Committee Minutes – March 28, 2023

MINUTES OF THE LAIRD RECREATION COMMITTEE MEETING HELD AT THE LAIRD TOWNSHIP OFFICE ON TUESDAY, MARCH 28, 2023

MEMBERS PRESENT: Donna Bos Suzanne Evoy Rhonda Crozier Jo-Anne Entwistle

The meeting was called to order by Suzanne Evoy, Chairperson.

ON MOTION (No. R10-23) Moved by Jo-Anne Entwistle seconded by Donna Bos “That the committee approves the Main Recreation Committee minutes of February 28, 2023 and the minutes of the Heritage Committee dated March 23, 2023.” CARRIED

Committee Reports:

  1. 1. G. W. Evoy Rink
  • closed for the season
  1. 2. Laird Hall
  • hall Chair is calling a meeting in April
  • lots attending curling on Friday afternoons
  1. 3. Laird Fairgrounds
  • meeting coming April 6th
  1. 4. Finns’ Bay Wharf
  • a Kids Fishing Derby was held in the area with load of kids and great prizes.
  1. 5. Heritage Committee
  • meeting again in June

ON MOTION (No. R11-23) Moved by Donna Bos, seconded by Jo-Anne Entwistle “That the recreation committee approves the accounts for February 2023 in the amount of $29,276.85.” CARRIED

Business Arising out of the Minutes:

The secretary reported that a township budget meeting is scheduled for April 13, 2023.

The secretary reported that the township is accepting applications for three summer positions. The age requirement is 15 – 30 years of age and applicants do not have to be in school.

New Business:

The committee discussed the Inclusive and Accessible Community Grant and will investigate for project ideas.

The Spring/Summer Activity was discussed.

ON MOTION (No. R12-23) Moved by Jo-Anne Entwistle, seconded by Donna Bos “That the recreation committee requests that Council, in conjunction with Recreation, host a Staff, Volunteer and Seniors BBQ this year. CARRIED

It was reported that Giant Pumpkin Seeds are not in stock with most suppliers and staff will investigate other options.

The committee discussed installing Library Boxes again and Suzanne Evoy will look into get some quotes for construction of the boxes.

The next meeting will be held Tuesday, April 25, 2023 at 7:00 pm at the Laird Township

Boardroom.
