THE CORPORATION OF THE TOWNSHIP OF LAIRD

By-law Number 2016-24

BEING A BY-LAW to update Mayor and Councillor remuneration.

WHEREAS the Municipal Act, R.S.O. 2001, as amended, Section 283 (1) allows a municipality to pay any part of the remuneration and expenses of the members of any local of the municipalities and of the officers and employees of a local board; and,

WHEREAS the Municipal Act, R.S.O. 2001, as amended, Section 283 (2) allows that the municipality may only pay the expenses of the members of its council or of a local board of the municipality and of the officers and employees of the municipality or local board if the expenses are of those persons in their capacity of members, officers or employees and if, (a) the expenses are actually incurred; or (b) the expenses, are, in lieu of the expenses incurred, a reasonable estimate, in the opinion of the council or local board, of the actual expensed that would be incurred;

NOW THEREFORE the Council of the Corporation of Laird hereby declares that stipends shall be as follows:

All members of Council $75.00 for local day meetings outside of Laird Township and $50.00 for evening meetings outside of Laird Township.

Remuneration distributed four times a year: March, June, September and December.

AND FURTHER that the stipends shall be increased each year, effective January 1, 2026, based on the tax rate increase percentage from the previous calendar year.

AND FURTHER that the expense repayment to Councillors shall be dispersed only when the activity is authorized by Resolution of Council as per Per Diem policy and mileage to be determined by approved monthly rate chart.

AND FURTHER that this by-law shall repeal any other by-laws that are inconsistent with the provisions hereof.

AND FURTHER that this by-law comes into effect on January 1, 2024.
