MINUTES OF THE LAIRD FAIRGROUNDS COMMITTEE MEETING
HELD AT THE LAIRD TOWNSHIP OFFICE ON MONDAY, JUNE 15, 2026

“That the committee approves the Agenda of June 15, 2026 with additions of Abended Vehicle at LIR and Photos of North East corner at LIR.”

Business Arising out of the Minutes:

Noah Crozier reported on the Access Free Horse night. Some concerns about house riders cleaning up after horse. Vasco will be asked to leave a wheelbarrow handy to dispose of.

House Arena Drainage was discussed and it was reported that the arena has been reshaped and a load of soil was added. Staff will stay on top of the arena and reshape when necessary.

Secretary reported that the Gazebo Kitchen counters have been removed and that Iris MacLean is able to do up drawings in the fall.

We are still waiting for the Gazebo Light Fixture to be repairs by an electrician.

The Arena Extension has been completed with instructions from A.H.A. If changes are needed for an event than it is the renter’s responsibility.

Gates for Small Pen was discussed and NSAS needs to do some measuring so they can get started.

New Business:

BYOB was discussed and the secretary informed the committee the council has not passed a by-law and the in order to have such an event a permit is needed.

The secretary is to contact the family of Dan Goertzen to see what they would like on a plaque for the bench and then order one.

An inquiry was made about an abended truck at the LIR and it was communicated that the red truck was Donnie Varco’s and it is not abended.

Brad Shewfelt asked if Acting Superintendent Ed Lapish would take some photos of the North East area of the LIR for Council.

“That the committee approves of Ed Lapish taking photos of the LIR North East side for council.”

The five-Year Plan was discussed and the committee agreed that the painting of arena board, posts, booths and barns will be put off until next year along with painting of all the roofs. The committee also discussed the taking down of the old Rink Shack building know as the Paint Shop holding Heritage stuff and Pumpkin Fest stuff. It was the consensus of the committee to hold off until the new Heritage Centre is built.

The next meeting will be held at the Laird Fairgrounds on Tuesday October 6, 2026 at 7:00 p.m.
