MINUTES FINNS’ BAY WHARF COMMITTEE MEETING May 1, 2024 AT 6:00 PM LOCATION: LAIRD TOWNSHIP OFFICE

Present: Todd Rydall (Chair), Jennifer Errington (Laird Township Clerk), Jo-Anne Entwistle (Recording Secretary), Brad Shewfelt, Lee Ranta, (by phone), Karolina Dick, Arla Leupkes, Donna Connolly, John Hooper.

1. CALL TO ORDER/REVIEW THE AGENDA

(ON MOTION # 06-24) Moved by Brad Shewfelt, seconded by Donna Connolly “That the meeting be called to order by Todd Rydall, chairperson, and that the committee approves the Finns’ Bay Wharf Meeting Agenda of May 1, 2024” CARRIED

2. MINUTES OF January 24, 2024

(ON MOTION #07-24) Moved by John Hooper, seconded by Arla Leupkes “That the committee approves the Finns’ Bay Wharf Sub-Committee minutes of January 24, 2024, as presented” CARRIED

3. DELEGATIONS AND PRESENTATIONS

The Clerk Jennifer Errington reviewed the following By-laws: By-law 1079-03 Violence and Harassment By-law 1072-23 Terms of Reference of Laird Recreation and Sub Committees By-law 1097-23 Procedural Governance

4. BUSINESS ARISING FROM THE MINUTES

  1. 1) Street Block Party (ON MOTION #08-24) Moved by Donna Connoly, Seconded by Arla Leupkes “That the Finns’ Bay Wharf Sub-Committee approves to have the Wharf Meet and Greet on Sunday, August 11, 2024 from 1-4 PM. The event will be a family event. Lee Ranta will spearhead. Todd Rydall will help. Notification of the event will be put in the Township Newsletter and will also ask for volunteers to participate or help out.

Attendees will be asked to suggest a name for the Wharf Property. Hot dogs, water and name tags will be provided” CARRIED

  1. 2) Trillium Grant Application: The Wharf property did not fit the criteria for a Trillium Grant Application
  2. 3) Safety Issue- rebar on concrete blocks
  • No action at this time
  1. 4) Prevention of vehicles driving on the Wharf-one gate back in place and signage-
  • Reported that Township Staff are addressing request.
  1. 5) Parking Lot Improvements
  • Reported that Council approved the improvements to proceed.
  1. 6) Question regarding when Wharf property can be sold
  • It was reported it can be sold March 2027.
  1. 7) Beaver damage and removal of broken bicycle
  • Reported that Township Staff are addressing the stumps left by the beaver and will remove broken bicycle.
  1. 8) Wharf Property Power Quote-Power into Wharf: Discussion.
  • Matter deferred to the Fall Wharf Meeting.

  1. 1) John has sourced a buoy for display at the Wharf. Discussion and Motion will be on the agenda for the next Wharf Meeting.
