Horse Arena Code of Conduct
Creating a safe,
respectful, and welcoming environment for all riders, horses, and visitors.
🛡️ Safety First
- All riders must wear appropriate footwear and helmets are strongly
recommended (mandatory for minors).
- No lunging in arena.
- No loose horses in the arena—horses must remain under control at all
times.
- Report any unsafe behavior or hazards to arena staff or the
supervisor immediately.
🤝 Respect for Others
- Be courteous and aware of other riders at all times.
- Communicate clearly while riding (e.g., "passing left,"
"coming across").
- Use the arena in a way that allows shared space for all disciplines.
- Keep noise and distractions to a minimum—no loud music or shouting.
- Spectators should remain outside of the arena fence unless otherwise
permitted.
🧹 Cleanliness &
Responsibility
- Pick up after your horse—manure must be cleaned from the arena and
surrounding areas.
- Dispose of trash in proper receptacles.
- Keep all aisles, gates, and exits clear.
- Do not feed horses that aren’t yours without permission from the
owner.
🧭 Arena Etiquette
- Slower riders and walkers stay to the inside, faster riders to the
rail.
- Yield to riders performing specific exercises (e.g., jumping,
dressage patterns) as appropriate.
- Be mindful of spacing—maintain a safe distance between horses.
🚫 Prohibited Conduct
- Aggressive behavior toward horses or people will not be tolerated.
- No drugs or alcohol permitted on the premises.
- No dogs in the arena (leashed dogs allowed in designated areas
only).
- Any person behaving in an unsafe or disrespectful manner may be
asked to leave.
📘 Equine Canada Standards &
Compliance
All riders, handlers, and spectators
agree to conduct themselves in accordance with the Equine Canada Code of
Conduct, the Equine Canada Constitution, and all applicable Equine
Canada Rules while using the Laird Fairgrounds Horse Arena.
These national
standards promote safety, horse welfare, fairness, and respectful behaviour.
Participants are expected to uphold these principles at all times while on the
premises.
We’re all
responsible for making this a safe and enjoyable place.
