Police Services Board Minutes – February 26, 2024

MINUTES OF THE LAIRD TOWNSHIP POLICE SERVIES BOARD MEETING HELD FEBRUARY 26, 2024, AT 9:00 AM IN THE LAIRD TOWNSHIP BOARDROOM CHAMBERS

Present: Chair: Shawn Evoy Member: Dan Crozier Provincial Representative: Vacant Ontario Provincial Police: S/Sgt. Laurie Graham Secretary-Treasurer: Jennifer Errington

The meeting was called to order by Shawn Evoy, chairperson.

ON MOTION (No. 01-24) of Dan Crozier, seconded by Shawn Evoy that the Police Services Board approves the agenda of February 26, 2024, with the modification to add a closed meeting matter. CARRIED

ON MOTION (No. 02-24) of Dan Crozier, seconded by Shawn Evoy that the Police Services Board approves the minutes of November 1, 2023, as presented. CARRIED

Delegations and Presentations

S/Sgt Graham of the Sault Ste. Marie OPP Detachment presented Calls For Service (CFS) report for October, November and December 2023 and January 2024, the Records Management System report for October, November and December 2023 and January 2024, and Integrated Court Offences Network report for October, November and December 2023 and January 2024.

• Concentrating efforts to Neebish Road
• Re-established cadet program, new cadet started December 2023 for a one-year contract.
• OPP is working on hiring a special constable

Business Arising out of Discussions

Focus Patrol program has changed. OPP is focusing on Neebish Road and Pumpkin Point Road. It has been requested to have sergeants get out before 9 a.m. and between 2-5 p.m.

New Business

RCMP Musical Ride – July 10 & July 11, 2024 was discussed. There is a possibility that officers may volunteer to attend the event. However, the process to have duty officers attend the event would be through a paid duty. S/Sgt Graham will send over the Paid Duty Request Form.

Illegal Dumping Incident – December 29, 2023 was discussed. In the future when situations like illegal dumping arises, the best practice is to report it to the police to investigate.

Board Meetings

The next meeting to be held on Monday, May 6, 2024. New Act to be in place for April 1, 2024, therefore the scheduled meeting may change.

Closed Meeting

ON MOTION (No. 03-24) of Dan Crozier, seconded by Shawn Evoy that the Police Services Board enter into closed meeting session as per Police Services Board By-law 02-04 Section 2.12 b) to discuss a matter pertaining to criminal and other police investigations in which premature public disclosure could prejudice the successful completion of their investigation, or interfere with the right of an accused person to a fair and impartial trial or hearing. CARRIED

ON MOTION (No. 04-24) of Dan Crozier, seconded by Shawn Evoy that the Police Services Board come out of closed meeting session at 9:46 a.m. and continue on with Regular Police Board Meeting. CARRIED

Adjournment

ON MOTION (No. 05-24) of Dan Crozier, seconded by Shawn Evoy that the police services board meeting be adjourned at 9:50 a.m. and will meet again Monday, May 6, 2024 at 9:00 a.m.
