New Official Plan

In accordance with Section 17 and 26 of the Planning Act, R.S.O., C.P. 13, as amended, the Township of Laird is holding a Public Meeting for the Official Plan for the Desbarats to Echo Bay Planning Board.

The Official Plan is a statement of goals, objectives and policies to guide future growth within the townships for a twenty to thirty (20-30) year horizon. As the Township of Laird does not currently have an Official Plan in effect, adoption of the Joint Official Plan through the Planning Board process will establish the Township’s first Official Plan.

The purpose of this Official Plan is to implement a shared vision for land use planning and development for the Township and other municipalities that form part of the Desbarats to Echo Bay Planning Board. The Official Plan incorporates new provincial policy directions and considers local planning issues that impact your community.

The Official Plan will apply to all lands within the Township of Laird.

The statutory public meeting for the review and adoption of the Official Plan will be held on:

October 15, 2026 at 5 pm

Participation

If you wish to speak to this matter, you must contact the Clerk by October 9, 2026 at clerk@lairdtownship.ca or by phone at 705-248-2395 to be registered to participate in the public meeting.

If you wish to provide written comments at the public meeting, comments must be addressed to the Clerk and received by October 9, 2026 at 5 p.m. Comments may be mailed or emailed. All written comments received prior to any approval will be considered.

Appeals

If a person or public body would otherwise have an ability to appeal the decision of the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing to the Ontario Land Tribunal but the person or public body does not make oral submissions at a public meeting or make written submissions to the Township of Laird before the proposed official plan is adopted, the person or public body is not entitled to appeal the decision.

If a person or public body does not make oral submissions at a public meeting or make written submissions to the Township of Laird office before the proposed official plan is adopted, the person or public body may not be added as a party to the hearing of an appeal before the Ontario Land Tribunal unless, in the opinion of the Tribunal, there are reasonable grounds to add the person or public body as a party.

This information is also available to the public at the Laird Township Office between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday.
