Recreation Committee Minutes – April 25, 2023

MINUTES OF THE LAIRD RECREATION COMMITTEE MEETING HELD AT THE LAIRD TOWNSHIP OFFICE ON TUESDAY, APRIL 25, 2023

MEMBERS PRESENT: Donna Bos Suzanne Evoy Matt Frolick Rhonda Crozier Jo-Anne Entwistle

The meeting was called to order by Matt Frolick, Chairperson.

ON MOTION (No. R14-23) Moved by Donna Bos seconded by Suzanne Evoy “That the committee approves the Main Recreation Committee minutes of March 28, 2023 as presented.” CARRIED

Committee Reports:

  1. 1. G. W. Evoy Rink
  • some cleanup to be done by volunteers
  1. 2. Bar River Hall
  • drawing to be completed in a couple weeks
  1. 3. Laird Hall
  • two charging stations have been installed
  • new mat at the main entrance
  • a vacuum was donated for the caretaker to use
  • next meeting in May 2023
  1. 4. Laird Fairgrounds
  • caretaker starting next week
  1. 5. Finns’ Bay Wharf
  • a public meeting is coming up on May 17th to petition the public for future ideas -a flyer will be sent out to gather the input and ideas in writing

ON MOTION (No. R15-23) Moved by JoAnne Entwistle, seconded by Donna Bos “That the recreation committee approves the accounts for March 2023 in the amount of $4,745.53.” CARRIED

Business Arising out of the Minutes:

The secretary handed out the subcommittee budgets that were passed by council April 13, 2023 for committee discussion.

The secretary reported that the township has funding approval for two recreation Summer Program positions. The interviews will be held next week.

The secretary reported that the Inclusive and Accessible Community Grant application was submitted for walkway and washroom improvements to the Laird Fairgrounds.

The committee discussed the Staff, Volunteer and Seniors BBQ and determined it will be held Sunday, June 4th 1pm at the Laird Hall.

Brenda Aelick submitted a report on spring seeds and the Pumpkin Fest. Giant pumpkin seeds and large and small sunflower seeds can be picked up at the Laird Township office. The Pumpkin Fest will be held Saturday, September 30, 2023 at the Laird Fairgrounds.

New Business:

The secretary reported on the summer camps that our summer employees will help put together and reported that our summer employees will also help run the softball and soccer programs.

The next meeting will be held Tuesday, May 30, 2023 at 7:00 pm at the Laird Township

Boardroom.
