Recreation Committee Minutes – April 27, 2021

MINUTES OF THE LAIRD RECREATION COMMITTEE MEETING HELD THROUGH A ZOOM VIDEO OR PHONE CALL ON TUESDAY, APRIL 27, 2021

The meeting was called to order by Matt Frolick, Chairperson.

ON MOTION (No. R17-21) Moved by Donna Bos, seconded by Brenda Aelick “That the minutes of March 30, 2021 be adopted, as circulated.” CARRIED

Committee Reports:

  1. 1. G. W. Evoy Rink
  • Trillium Grant is approved for Capital $150,000.00
  1. 2. Bar River Hall
  • a grant application open for Hall Improvements through NOHFC
  • council approved of an application being submitted for the hall
  1. 3. Pumpkin Point Park
  • more sand is required and the slide is cracked

ON MOTION (No. R18-21) Moved by Frank Turco, seconded by Kathy Sutherland “That recreation approves the accounts for March 2021 in the amount of $7587.75.” CARRIED

Business Arising out of the Minutes:

A scope of work and cost was completed for the Trillium Grant at the Bar River Rink. Shawn Evoy has agreed to volunteer his time and oversee the project.

A list of repair issues was completed by Merril Evoy for the Bar River Hall and the subcommittee wishes to apply for funding to replace the foundation of the hall and address the erosion issue on the river bank.

ON MOTION (No. R19-21) Moved by Kathy Sutherland, seconded by Brenda Aelick “That recreation approves of Shawn Evoy acting as project manager for the Bar River Hall and

ON MOTION (No. R20-21) Moved by Brenda Aelick, seconded by Donna Bos “That recreation approves of sending out the tender for repairs at the Bar River Hall as discussed.” CARRIED

Minutes Laird Township Recreation

April 27, 2021

The committee discussed the Healthy Communities Funding criteria. Council has approved of an application being sent in for the Laird Fairground improvement as well as the Finns Bay Wharf improvements. The committee discussed composting toilets for the Wharf. Sub-committee are working to supply their plans and quote for the application.

Brenda Aelick reported on the Spring BINGO activity. Approx. 35 were returned and participants received Blue Spruce seedlings in honour of Earth Day! Joanne North won the draw for a basked and Tristan Tremblay won the draw for a wreath. Many thanks to Judy Hughes who donated maple syrup for the basket and Debra Roussel who donated the wreath.

ON MOTION (No. R21-21) Moved by Brenda Aelick, seconded by Kathy Sutherland “That recreation approves of the placement of the recreation summer students as discussed.” CARRIED ON MOTION (No. R22-21) Moved by Brenda Aelick, seconded by Rhonda Crozier “That recreation approves of the Laird Fairgrounds Management Board functioning under the recreation umbrella.” CARRIED

The next meeting will be held Tuesday May 25, 2021 at 7:00 p.m. at Laird Township Hall.
