Recreation Committee Minutes – August 30, 2022

MINUTES OF THE LAIRD RECREATION COMMITTEE MEETING HELD AT THE LAIRD TOWNSHIP ON TUESDAY, AUSUST 30, 2022

MEMBERS PRESENT: Kathy Sutherland Frank Turco Donna Bos Rhonda Crozier Brenda Aelick Shawn Evoy

The meeting was called to order by Brenda Aelick, Chairperson.

ON MOTION (No. R23-22) Moved by Shawn Evoy, seconded by Frank Turco “That the minutes of July 05, 2022 be adopted, as circulated.” CARRIED

Committee Reports:

  1. 1. Laird Hall
  • funding for lighting upgrade possible
  1. 2. Bar River Hall
  • the pump is acting up and the fan was repaired
  1. 3. Finns Bay Rd. Wharf
  • outhouse was installed and the back lots have been sold
  1. 4. Pumpkin Point Park
  • 6 or 8 dead trees were taken down
  • shore has been cleaned up
  1. 5. G. W. Evoy Rink
  • pavement being installed soon
  1. 6. Laird Fairgrounds
  • Raceway had a successful season
  • rentals have been good
  • an application to Trillium for $150,000 in funding has been submitted to fix up the Gazebo
  1. 7. Heritage Committee
  • the minutes from July 12 and August 25 were reviewed

ON MOTION (No. R26-22) Moved by Kathy Sutherland, seconded by Donna Bos “That recreation approves the minutes of the Heritage Committee held July 12, 2022 and August 25, 2022.” CARRIED ON MOTION (No. R27-22) Moved by Donna Bos, seconded by Shawn Evoy “That the committee approves the accounts for June 2022 int the amount of $9143.24.” CARRIED

Business Arising out of the Minutes:

The committee discussed plans for the Pumpkin Fest to be held Sat. Sept. 24, 2022.

The library boxes were discussed and next year the committee plans on pursuing a different style box than what was presented.

New Business:

The committee is in favour of the Senior of the Year Award being delivered by the Clerk and the Mayor.

ON MOTION (No. R28-22) Moved by Shawn Evoy, seconded by Donna Bos “That the committee apply to the Ontario Senior Achievement Award program.” CARRIED

The next meeting will be held Tues. Sept. 13, 2022 at 7:00p.m.

ON MOTION (No. R29-22) Moved by Frank Turco, seconded by Donna Bos “That the Aug. 30, 2022 meeting be adjourned.” CARRIED
