Recreation Committee Minutes – February 28, 2023

MINUTES OF THE LAIRD RECREATION COMMITTEE MEETING HELD AT THE LAIRD TOWNSHIP OFFICE ON TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 28, 2023

MEMBERS PRESENT: Donna Bos Shawn Evoy Suzanne Evoy Matt Frolick Rhonda Crozier Jo-Anne Entwistle Brenda Aelick

The meeting was called to order by Matt Frolick, Chairperson.

ON MOTION (No. R07-23) Moved by Shawn Evoy seconded by Suzanne Evoy “That the committee approves the Main Recreation Committee minutes of January 31, 2023 and the minutes of the Laird Hall Committee, Finns’ Bay Wharf Committee, Laird Fairgrounds Committee and the Pumpkin Point Park Committee from January/February 2023.” CARRIED

Committee Reports:

The secretary presented a list of all Laird Township Committee members.

  1. 1. Bar River Hall
  • an agreement with Kresin Engineering is in place for them to do up the drawings for the renovation
  • the hall is being booked quite often
  1. 2. G. W. Evoy Rink
  • the rink is being opened depending on the weather
  • lots of kids are using it
  1. 3. Laird Fairgrounds
  • Brenda Aelick reviewed the committee minutes
  1. 4. Finns’ Bay Wharf
  • Jo-Anne Entwistle reviewed the committee minutes
  • a public meeting is being held on May 17, 2023 at 7:00 pm.
  • council passed a motion to consult with the public on future uses of the Wharf
  1. 5. Laird Hall
  • Jo-Anne Entwistle reviewed the committee minutes

ON MOTION (No. R08-23) Moved by Shawn Evoy, seconded by Jo-Anne Entwistle “That the recreation committee approves the accounts for January 2023 in the amount of $9031.62.” CARRIED

Business Arising out of the Minutes:

It was reported that the Winter Carnival was a success. Lots of people, games and prizes.

The committee reviewed the budgets for the Bar River Hall, Finns’ Bay Wharf, G. W. Evoy Rink, Laird Fairgrounds and Pumpkin Point Park and made some adjustments.

It was the consensus of the committee to forward the Seniors Community Grant information on to the chairs of the sub-committees.

New Business:

The secretary asked sub-committees to think about tasks for the recreation summer employees.

The next meeting will be held Tuesday, March 28, 2023 at 7:00 pm at the Laird Township

Boardroom.

ON MOTION (No. R09-23) Moved by Shawn Evoy “That the February 28, 2023 meeting be adjourned.” CARRIED
