Recreation Committee Minutes – July 5, 2022

MINUTES OF THE LAIRD RECREATION COMMITTEE MEETING HELD AT THE LAIRD TOWNSHIP HALL ON TUESDAY, JULY 05, 2022

The meeting was called to order by Matt Frolick, Chairperson.

ON MOTION (No. R23-22) Moved by Shawn Evoy, seconded by Suzanne Evoy “That the minutes of May 31, 2022 be adopted, as circulated.” CARRIED

Committee Reports:

  1. 1. Laird Hall
  • the heritage artifacts have been moved from the hall to the township office.
  1. 2. Bar River Hall
  • planning for the renovation has begun
  1. 3. Finns Bay Rd. Wharf
  • outhouse is ordered
  1. 4. Pumpkin Point Park
  • bear proof garbage can installed at Bird Watch Station
  • Red Maple tree was planted
  1. 5. G. W. Evoy Rink
  • pavement being installed soon
  1. 6. Laird Fairgrounds
  • Red Maple tree planted near entrance gate
  • gravel installed in front of concession booths
  • there has been a few water line breaks
  • the septic tank has been pumped out
  • the old stalls are being taken down
  • discussion on the lawnmower repairs
  1. 7. Heritage Committee
  • summer student is working at computerizing the artifacts that are catalogued.

ON MOTION (No. R24-22) Moved by Shawn Evoy, seconded by Donna Bos “That recreation approves the accounts for May 2022 in the amount of $5323.48.” CARRIED

Business Arising out of the Minutes:

The committee discussed plans for the Pumpkin Fest to be held Sat. Sept. 24, 2022.

The sunflower distribution is going fairly well. There will be seeds left over for next year.

The township council passed the annual budget and sub-committees should have received confirmation of the funding.

The township has hired three summer youths this year for recreation. One at 280 hrs., one at 232 hrs. and one at 140 hrs.

New Business:

Frank Turco brought in a library box that he has been constructing.

The committee has agreed to meet throughout the summer on July 26 and Aug. 30, 2022.

The next meeting will be held Tues. July 26, 2022 at 7:00p.m.
