Recreation Committee Minutes – June 2024

MINUTES OF THE LAIRD RECREATION COMMITTEE MEETING HELD AT THE LAIRD TOWNSHIP OFFICE ON TUESDAY, JUNE 25, 2024

The meeting was called to order by Matt Frolick, Chairperson.

ON MOTION (No. R25-24) Moved by Shawn Evoy, seconded by Noah Crozier “That the committee approves the Main Recreation Committee Agenda of June 25, 2024 as presented.” CARRIED

ON MOTION (No. R26-24) Moved by Shawn Evoy, seconded by Noah Crozier “That the committee approves the Main Recreation Committee Minutes of May 29, 2024, as presented.” CARRIED

ON MOTION (No. R27-24) Moved by Shawn Evoy, seconded by Jo-Anne Entwistle “That the committee approves the Laird Hall Committee Minutes of May 28, 2024, as presented.” CARRIED

ON MOTION (No. R28-24) Moved by Jo-Anne Entwistle, seconded by Shawn Evoy “That the committee approves the Finns’ Bay Wharf Committee Minutes of May 1, 2024, as presented.” CARRIED

Committee Reports:

1. 1. G. W. Evoy Rink: A quote for $27,200 is in for the playground equipment.

A plaque has been placed honouring Elaine Evoy- Dump Run Cafe.

1. 2. Laird Hall: Caretaker is having issues with renters and users of the hall.

ON MOTION (No. R29-24) Moved by Shawn Evoy, seconded by Brenda Aelick “That the committee agrees to send a letter to the Seniors Group.” CARRIED

1. 3. Bar River Hall Tender #3 Interior Repairs has been awarded and repairs look to be on budget.
2. 4. Pumpkin Point Park Swings are repaired.
3. 5. Finns Bay Wharf Gates and boulders are in place to help prevent vehicles from dock.
4. 6. Laird Fairgrounds Brenda Aelick reported that the rails have been replaced on the arena and other goings on.

ON MOTION (No. R30-24) Moved by Shawn Evoy seconded by Brenda Aelick “That the committee approves the purchase of two new stoves and range hood fans from the quote that Stobie’s Mechanical submitted in the amount of $4363.10 plus tax as presented.” CARRIED

ON MOTION (No. R31-24) Moved by Brenda Aelick, seconded by Noah Crozier “That the committee approves the accounts for May 2024 in the amount of $1276.30 as presented.” CARRIED

Business Arising from Minutes:

The Appreciation BBQ was held on Sunday, June 2, 2024 with approximately 75 people attending. The feedback received was good.

The secretary reported that the Library Boxes should be completed by the end of summer.

The secretary reported that the summer employees for the Summer Camps and Heritage are being trained and will start next week. The summer employee of Caretaker Assistant started at the beginning of June

The next meeting will be held Tuesday, August 27, 2024 at 7:00p.m. at the Laird Township

Boardroom.
