Recreation Committee Minutes – May 25, 2021
MINUTES OF THE LAIRD RECREATION COMMITTEE MEETING HELD THROUGH A ZOOM VIDEO OR PHONE CALL ON TUESDAY, MAY 25, 2021

The meeting was called to order by Matt Frolick, Chairperson.
ON MOTION (No. R24-21) Moved by Donna Bos, seconded by Brenda Aelick “That the minutes of April 27, 2021 be adopted, as circulated.” CARRIED
Committee Reports:
- 1. G. W. Evoy Rink
- discussed under Trillium Grant
- 2. Laird Hall
- museum to move things into the hall temporarily
- 3. Bar River Hall
- discussed under Rural Enhancement Funding application
- 4. Pumpkin Point Park
- chipper was rented and trees cleaned up
- staff to look into warranty of the slide that is cracked
- 5. Finns Bay Wharf
- garbage containers were placed
- staff to look into a compost toilet regulation
- Jo-Anne Entwistle has be added to the committee
- a new railing is in place
ON MOTION (No. R25-21) Moved by Shawn Evoy, seconded by Jo-Anne Entwistle “That recreation approves the accounts for April 2021 in the amount of $1802.78.” CARRIED
Business Arising out of the Minutes:
Shawn Evoy reported on the status of the Trillium Funding G. W. Evoy Rink Project as follows: Request for quotes were sent out for demo of rink boards Request for quotes have been sent out for new rink boards, aluminum 3”, poly base Next tender or request for quote will be for backfilling the area
ON MOTION (No. R26-21) Moved by Shawn Evoy, seconded by Frank Turco That recreation approves the quote for the G. W. Evoy Rink Demo in the amount of $2768.50 including tax from Karhi Contracting with payment on completion.” CARRIED Action: Secretary
Shawn Evoy reported on the status of the Bar River Hall and the Rural Enhancement Funding application as follows:
Council has approved the road department to place rip rap along the river bank beside the hall
Barry Rydall Builders are to provide a quote to repair/replace the foundation of the hall A tender was sent out for completion of immediate repairs to the hall which is due May 28, 2021. Staff is asked to complete the application for funding which will include the foundation repairs/replacement.
An application for funding under Healthy Communities is in the works for the Laird Fairgrounds and Finns Bay Wharf. Shawn Evoy is to complete a sketch of a possible layout of the Gazebo Karhi Contracting was to pump out the fairgrounds washroom holding tank but instead pumped out the water tank. A quote is coming for interior repairs to the Gazebo as well as to extend the concrete pad and repair some support piers.
LFMB request to be put under recreation umbrella is going to be put on the next council agenda in June.
Interviews have been held for Summer Students to work at Summer Camps for recreation. We are still waiting on Provincial Funding approval.
New Business:
The committee is asked to put their thinking caps on for future activities for recreation to hold.
Jack Priest has resigned from Recreation Committee. Thank you Jack for your many years of volunteering. Action: Secretary
ON MOTION (No. R27-21) Moved by Shawn Evoy, seconded by Frank Turco “That recreation approves of Jack Priest being nominated as Senior of the Year.” CARRIED
ON MOTION (No. R28-21) Moved by Shawn Evoy, seconded by Frank Turco “That recreation approves of sending out a flyer for the Summer Camp registration.” CARRIED Action: Secretary
The next meeting will be held Tuesday June 29, 2021 at 7:00 p.m. at Laird Township Hall.
