MINUTES OF THE LAIRD RECREATION COMMITTEE MEETING HELD AT THE LAIRD FAIRGROUNDS ON TUESDAY, SEPT. 28, 2021

The meeting was called to order by Suzanne Evoy, Chairperson.
ON MOTION (No. R33-21) Moved by Donna Bos, seconded by Brenda Aelick “That the minutes of June 22, 2021 be adopted, as circulated.” CARRIED
Committee Reports:
- 1. G. W. Evoy Rink
- Evoy Const. awarded tender for rink boards and misc.
- looking into location for playground equipment
- rink boards to arrive approximately Oct. 15/21
- 2. Laird Hall
- new caretaker is Cheryl Frenette
- 3. Bar River Hall
- new caretakers are Kelsey Siddall & Julie Bailey
- Kelsey Siddall wants to be on the committee
- 4. Pumpkin Point Park
- arranging slide to be welded
- trees at shoreline need attention
- 5. Finns Bay Wharf
- not much usage
- committee needs a plan or vision
- possibly petition the public for development ideas
- 6. Laird Fairgrounds
- Brenda Aelick provided a report on the season
- grant application to Healthy Communities ($200,000) was denied
- lots of interest for committee members
ON MOTION (No. R34-21) Moved by Shawn Evoy, seconded by Kathy Sutherland “That recreation approves the accounts for June, July, and August 2021 in the amount of $2,193.74, $18,275.09 and $1,247.18.” CARRIED
Business Arising out of the Minutes:
The committee discussed the development of a Recreation Sub-Committee Policy. Include dates of required meetings, procurement direction and make it simple.
The Trillium Grant status is explained above under #1. G.W. Evoy Rink.
The application is being completed for Rural Enhancement Funding NOHFC ($200,000) for the Bar River Hall.
The application is submitted to Community Revitalization Fund FEDNOR ($500,000) for the Bar River Hall.
Micheal Bailey our Recreations summer student finished his position with us. He helped with summer camps in Echo Bay and misc yard maintenance in the township.
Dog Training Classes at the Laird Fairgrounds are still going on.
New Business:
The secretary reported that the hall rental contract was amended to take in Covid-19 requirements.
ON MOTION (No. R35-21) Moved by Shawn Evoy, seconded by Jo-Anne Entwistle “That the committee supports the event “Fall Pet Portraits” to be held Sunday, October 3/21 at the Laird Fairgrounds.
The insurance for Facility User was discussed and will be revisited next meeting.
The next meeting will be held Tuesday Oct. 26, 2021 at 7:00 p.m. at Laird Township Hall.
