Council Meetings:

Third Thursday of each month at 6:00 pm. Amendments to meeting times will be advertised on website and board in Municipal Office.

Taxes:

The tax bills are sent out twice a year. The Interim Bill is due in two installments one in February and the second in April and the Final Bill is due in two installments one in July and the second in September.

We accept payments in the form of cheques, cash, debit, and by telephone or internet banking info@lairdtownship.ca (we are not signed up with all financial institutions so please contact your bank or credit union).

If you have purchased property close to one of these dates, please check with your lawyer or our office to find out the status of the property taxes.

Waste Disposal Site:

The waste disposal site is located at 1606 Government Road, between Pumpkin Point Road and Reids Road East. You must come into the Municipal Office and get a sticker to be able to use the site.

Recycling Program:

Recycling bins can be found at the waste disposal site. There is also one other location that Laird Township property owners can use, located at the corner of Highway 548 and Highway 17 (St. Joseph Island turn off).

The recycling program accepts #1 plastic (pop bottle plastic), #1-6 plastic, tin cans, aluminum cans, newspaper, flat board (cereal boxes, Kleenex boxes, etc.) office paper, slick paper, magazines, newspaper. Bins for electronics and battery recycling are located at the waste disposal site. A battery recycling container is also available at the Township office during business hours.

Burning Permits:

You are required to have a fire permit for all burning. There is no cost, the permit is required from April 1 to October 31 of each year and may be obtained by the land owner on-line, lairdtownship.ca or at the Municipal Office (one permit per address).

During the months that burn permits are not mandatory you are still required to follow all the burning Guidelines.

Dog Tags:

Dog tags are available on-line or at the Municipal Office at no cost. You must get one for your dog each year. Please bring in proof of rabies shots, within the last 24 months. Laird Bylaw #942-12 forbids you to allow dogs to run at large, doing so result in considerable fines.

Building permits

Laird Township Building Information sheet and Application for a Permit to Construct or demolish are available on the Laird Township website, lairdtownship.ca. Be aware that Laird Township Zoning By-law #531 prohibits the use of trailers and mobile homes as living accommodations. Property owners who have active building permits may apply to council for permission to use a trailer or mobile home for a specified amount of time while construction of a residence is underway. The use of sea cans for storage is permitted in some areas of the Township, please check with the Township for more information on if your property is permitted one.

Township Facilities

Laird Township has a number of facilities that can be used or rented for private functions. Check the website, lairdtownship.ca for rental information on the Laird Township Hall and the Bar River Community Center. The Laird Fairgrounds is also available for rental or to attend events. Pumpkin Point Park has a playground, beach and boat Launch area for public use. The GW Evoy outdoor rink is available in winter months for skating and hockey.
