Do Not Feed Cats or Other Animals at the Waste Disposal Site


To all visitors and personnel:

Feeding stray cats or other animals at the Waste Disposal Site is strictly prohibited.

This policy is in place to:

• ✅ Prevent the spread of disease
• ✅ Avoid attracting more stray or wild animals
• ✅ Maintain safety and cleanliness for all staff and visitors
• ✅ Ensure proper wildlife and pest control measures

While we understand the good intentions behind feeding animals, doing so can cause serious disruptions to the site’s operations and environmental management.

We kindly ask for your cooperation in not bringing food or feeding any animals on the premises.

HAZARDOUS WASTE
Laird Township has an agreement with the City of Sault Ste. Marie
to allow access of Laird Township residents to the
SSM Hazardous Waste Depot

*** PROPANE TANKS NOT ACCEPTED ***
Propane tanks are NOT allowed at the Laird Township Waste Disposal Site or in the metal recycling bin.
If you have old tanks to dispose of you can drop them off for free
at the Pit Stop gas bar/JT Automotive in Echo Bay.

HOUSEHOLD GARBAGE DISPOSAL
There is no charge for disposal of household ‘kitchen’ garbage. Other household refuse such as waste construction/demolition materials, fridges, freezers, furniture, etc. may require a ‘tipping fee’ (disposal fee) prior to being deposited in the Laird Township Disposal Site – please see complete list and instructions below. Both free and fee-based items must go in designated areas – please ask the attendant if you’re not sure.

SHARE SHED
The Share Shed is located within the gates of the disposal site and therefore only open during regular disposal site operational hours. The Share Shed is a unique way of recycling gently-used household items that you feel others might have a use for – it’s entirely free to drop off items and free to take items. Everything in the share shed is ‘first come, first served’ – please do not ask the attendant to save an item for you. Please note that the Share Shed guidelines prohibit clothing and other fabric items such as stuffed animals – Please find other alternatives for your gently used clothing and fabric items.

TIPPING FEES (DISPOSAL FEES)

Tipping Fees must be paid prior to depositing items at the Disposal Site. Payments may be made a the Municipal Office during regular work hours or to the Disposal Site Attendant. The receipt of payment will allow a person to dispose of those items below that have a cost. People may be asked from time to time to provide information about their place of residency which will help council in determining who is using the disposal site and from what areas.
